Study Abroad with Human Sciences!

In our increasingly globalized society, it is critical for Auburn University graduates to enter the workplace with a full appreciation and understanding of the differing values and customs of world cultures; how the world’s markets, goods, and services are interconnected; how hunger and food insecurity are addressed; and how environmental sustainability issues affect quality of life worldwide.

The College of Human Sciences is committed to educating socially responsible global citizens who thoroughly understand the value of working across borders, analyzing information from a variety of perspectives, approaching problem solving in non-ethnocentric ways, and understanding the complexity of issues facing individuals, families, and communities.

To that end, the College of Human Sciences offers a wide variety of international opportunities, to allow both undergraduate and graduate students the ability to add value to their educational credentials.

52% of College of Human Sciences Students graduate with a study abroad experience!

Here at Auburn, in the College of human sciences, we believe that the world is your classroom.

We have programs that run for a full semester for two weeks during spring break. The faculty that lead the programs are super passionate about the programs themselves.

My study abroad, the Mediterranean diet tour through my major of nutrition was led by a faculty member. He is just as passionate, so he's learning alongside us, gathering information for his research, and now I even have him as a professor in the classroom. So that's just been really full circle.

Another really great opportunity available to our students is participating in the Joseph S Bruno Auburn abroad in Italy program. They spend 12 weeks living and learning in a 15th century palace in oricia, Italy, which is about an hour outside of Rome. And they take weekly field trips that connect back to the classroom learning that they're doing each week.

I got to study abroad on an island in Fiji, and then didn't complete my internship on a permaculture farm there, which helped me see a lot of cross cultural work, as well as learning about sustainability and agriculture and how those can come together to help produce lasting change.

There's two different abroad offices at Auburn. There's Auburn abroad and Global Education. Global Education is the one specific to the College of human sciences. It definitely gives you a new perspective. So you live downtown Milan Fashion capital, and you also are living in the suburbs of Madrid, and you really just get all that different, like diverse culture.

I think that cultural intelligence and just being able to communicate with people who might think differently than you is invaluable experience, regardless of what your field is going to be.

Auburn wants to make sure that every student who wants to study abroad is able to and so there are study abroad scholarship opportunities available, and I actually received one of those awards, and I'm so thankful to have been able to experience that study abroad opportunity.
