Study Abroad with Human Sciences!

In our increasingly globalized society, it is critical for Auburn University graduates to enter the workplace with a full appreciation and understanding of the differing values and customs of world cultures; how the world’s markets, goods, and services are interconnected; how hunger and food insecurity are addressed; and how environmental sustainability issues affect quality of life worldwide.

The College of Human Sciences is committed to educating socially responsible global citizens who thoroughly understand the value of working across borders, analyzing information from a variety of perspectives, approaching problem solving in non-ethnocentric ways, and understanding the complexity of issues facing individuals, families, and communities.

To that end, the College of Human Sciences offers a wide variety of international opportunities, to allow both undergraduate and graduate students the ability to add value to their educational credentials.

52% of College of Human Sciences Students graduate with a study abroad experience!

So the College of Human Sciences has many study abroad programs. We're on almost every continent. And we have programs ranging from a week long immersion in London's fashion industry to a 12-week study abroad program in Ariccia, Italy.

I always knew I wanted to go to study abroad, I didn't know which country or what program I wanted to do. And the College of Human Sciences offered the JSB study abroad in Italy program and I loved Italy, the idea of traveling abroad always appealed to me. So when I got to go, it was like a dream come true for me. We actually stayed in Chigi Palace in Ariccia, Italy, which is a very specific opportunity that not a lot of other study abroad students get to have. It's a really great collaborative experience. And that's how I made some of my best friends at college.

We work very hard to make study abroad affordable for all students. We also work to help them obtain scholarships outside the college, if they're eligible, in addition to the ones that we have inside the college. And we're very passionate about helping students afford study abroad, but also have the experiences that they want while they're abroad.

It definitely was motivated by this desire to understand the world beyond Alabama. And I think that it did just that, and I not only learned about different ways of doing things, but also a lot about leadership and a lot about open mindedness, not only academically and professionally but personally as well.
