Apparel Merchandising, Design, and Production Management

Our apparel programs provide a well-rounded knowledge base to foster success in both merchandising and design- related careers.

The AMDP program offers two undergraduate options -- Apparel Merchandising (APME) and Apparel Design and Production Management (APDP) – as well as Master’s and PhD level opportunities.

Auburn's Apparel Merchandising and Design Program is ranked in the top 15 of national programs.

Internships

Gaining work experience in retail or some aspect of the apparel industry prior to the required internship is highly encouraged.

Exploration of career paths can be enhanced by using the summers and/or holiday periods for internships/work experiences in preparation for the required professional internship.

Professional internships in firms across the country and internationally prepare students for high quality apparel-related positions.

So with the Apparel, Merchandising and Design Production Management major, there are two different tracks you can take. You can take Design or you can take Merchandising, I feel that this program does a really good job in preparing me with the skills necessary for my career post graduation.

I chose Auburn's Apparel program because they're very highly ranked in the nation and in the south. So when I came here, it was a great opportunity to learn more about why that was. I'm currently grateful for my opportunity to be the co-founder and editor in chief of Swatch Magazine, which is a fully student run production here on Auburn's campus. By running this magazine, I've definitely been able to build relevant skill sets that I've been able to apply in and out of the classroom.

The fashion scholarship fund is a case study competition, and I was able to enter it and work alongside one of the faculty members. It allowed me to challenge myself, as well as learn very hands on, and so if it wasn't for the Apparel program, letting me know about these opportunities, I don't think I would have ever been able to achieve such a goal as being able to intern at Bloomingdale's.

The fashion event is an annual production that is held every spring here at Auburn, and the students get to run and produce it in the annual fashion event class. So that's a year long class that goes in fall and spring, and the students get to work on planning and executing it, which has been an amazing opportunity.
