Hospitality Management

The Horst Schulze School of Hospitality Management (HOSP) provides a strong educational foundation and excellent career preparation for students interested in the premium service segment of the hospitality industry. restaurant, event planning, culinary, country club, foodservice or beverage industries.

As an added competitive advantage, students graduate with a business minor from the Raymond J. Harbert College of Business.

Students also have the opportunity to participate in an international experience that will further distinguish HOSP graduates.

The program prides itself with a near 100% placement rate as graduates are in demand in a variety of health-related, hospitality and foods industry careers.

There are three formal options that students can choose form within the Hospitality Management program:

Hotel and Restaurant Management

The Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRMG) option is designed to prepare students for careers in the premium service segment of the lodging and food service industries.

Event Management

The Event Management Option (EVMT) is designed to attract students pursuing careers in the multi-faceted and ever evolving commercial, and non-commercial Meetings, Incentive, Conference and Events (MICE) sector.

Culinary Science

Culinary Science is designed to attract students pursuing careers in the commercial, and non-commercial food production and service industry.

We students are pursuing a degree in Hospitality Management. They will earn a Bachelors of Science in Hospitality Management, but then also have an option of three different tracks. First, being Hotel and Restaurant Management, next, Culinary and the third, Event Management. Our students also earn a minor in Business Administration.

I recently got back from working the Masters Golf tournament at Augusta National and really got to see behind the scenes look at how such a historic and traditional and well respected tournament is run. I 100% feel prepared to step into today's job market. One of the things that hospitality has taught me is flexibility and the importance of flexibility.

I'd like to share a little bit about the capstone experience that we have for our events track for our program. It's called the gala. It is a fundraising event for our students and program, which allows us to be able to offer the many opportunities stateside and abroad for our student population. We are lucky to have an industry partner at Ithaca Hospitality Group, and how we incorporate the experiences and exposure to Ithaca Hospitality Partner into our program is through a practicum experience, where they circulate through the hotel at Auburn University, working hand in hand, and seeking guidance from our hospitality partners to further their education.

I feel like practicum definitely set me up for success just because I got to learn the different departments within the hotel. And now I work here which is really exciting. So I'm the front desk manager here. All the experiences that I had in Hospitality Management led me to where I am today. I highly recommend this program to anyone inquiring.
