Global Studies

The Global Studies in Human Sciences curriculum is designed to educate students on relevant global issues, the realities of globalization and how local and global issues are interconnected.

Through required course work in the major and minor field, students will gain first-hand experience and be prepared for professional careers in the global studies field as it relates to human sciences.

The Global Studies in Human Sciences major draws on content relevant to human sciences (e.g., international nutrition, hunger and food insecurity, microlending and entrepreneurship, environmental sustainability, maternal and child health, education of women and girls, global markets, goods and services, humanitarian aid and social policy) as well as the faculty expertise of the Dean’s administrative team and the three departments in the College.

With the Global Studies program, we have students that go on to work in supply chain management. We have students that go on to law school-- Peace Corps.

I mean, the opportunities are really endless, which is what kind of makes the Global Studies majors so cool, because you can take all these different paths.

With the Global Studies major in the curriculum, a study abroad is required. So I think that really gives students a great opportunity to take what they've been learning in the classroom, about culture, and about the world, and about people, and see that firsthand in real life, which is really awesome and super unique experience.

The internship requirement is 450 hour requirement that can take place any semester, but can happen abroad, domestically. The internship is an opportunity to kind of get real world experience in a field that interests you. And I think it's a great opportunity to get out there and stop just learning in the classroom, but actually apply what you're learning anywhere in any field that you're interested in.

Through Global Studies, I've had so many opportunities to network and just grow as a person. And more recently, I was able to start a global organization chapter on Auburn's campus called the One Campaign and through the organization, I've been able to travel to DC and lobby on Capitol Hill. More recently, I was invited to speak at the board meeting on a panel in front of the One Campaign board members, including Bono, Sheryl Sandberg, Tom Preston, and more. It's been an incredible experience and the contacts that you can receive here are just incredible.
